Behind Black Streak
After spending the past 10 years working in and around government systems, I came to a difficult realization: these systems often fail to recognize, respect, or value my tribal perspective, skills, and voice. This lack of support didn’t just affect me professionally—it impacted me personally, especially in my efforts to serve tribes and Native communities with integrity.
Rather than continue down a path where my contributions were overlooked, I chose to create my own. I started this consulting business to offer my lived experience, education, and professional expertise to those ready to do the work respectfully and effectively.
My goal is to help organizations and governments evolve to better support their internal Native workforce and to build authentic, accountable relationships with tribes and Native communities.
In Navajo/Diné culture, we inherit our mother's clan identification. My mother belongs to the Tsinaajinii (Black Streak Wood People) clan. As a member of this clan, I chose Black Streak for my business name, which is similar to using my name.
Adam Becenti (Diné) is Tsi’naa jinii (Black Streak Wood People) born for the Tsé Nahabiłnii (Sleep Rock People) and goes by Hastiin Becenti.
